Personal Introduction

Intro pages are always so cheesy, aren’t they? But I think they’re important. It makes a big difference to me when I’m looking for someone to support me that I can get a feel for who they are as a person. So I’m more than happy to share a little here about who I am to help you know if you would feel comfortable working with me.

I love being a supporter of people, my own children, my friends and my community. I love to care for and learn from my children and from the families I’ve worked with. Becoming a mother changed me and changed my life in many ways. I’ve found it more difficult than I could ever have imagined and more wonderful too.

As a family peer supporter and emotional coach and (when I finish my training) as a holistic sleep coach my focus has been and will be on getting to know you and providing information and support that is focused on who you are and the choices you make. I’m completely obsessed with informed decision-making and family-centred care.

Why Joyful Family? Two reasons, one is to remember the baby I never got to meet but whose very short little life before my miscarriage was a turning point in mine. The experience of loss allowed me to realise I matter too and that reaching for the things that make me happy doesn’t make me a bad mum or a bad person. The other reason is the philosophy I try to return to when I get confused and stressed. Which is: life and family are not perfect by a long way. Perfect doesn’t exist. But that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to enjoy them. We’re allowed to look for the fun and take the support that allows us to do more than just hang on through. We don’t have to do it all ourselves to succeed.

I love to meet people and hear new points of view. The blog posts I share here are my point of view on life but I certainly don’t think I have all the answers and I hope I never stop learning.
